Good Morning from snowy, windy and pretty much nasty western Massachusetts! Due to the weather/blizzard conditions throughout much of the northeast, the Falcons game for tonight in Manchester, NH has been postponed. A new date for the game will be announced later today. This postponement actually comes at a perfect time for the Junior Jackets. Yesterday’s contest with the Providence Bruins was the first of five games in seven days. Over the past month and a half, the Monarchs (LA Kings) have been one of the AHL’s hottest clubs and are currently comfortably leading the Atlantic Division of the AHL. Now the Falcons will have an extra day to prepare for Wednesday night’s game against the Worcester Sharks.
Sunday in Springfield, after surrendering an early goal to the Baby B’s, the Falcons brushed off the holiday rust and truly dominated the next 35 minutes of the game. The Falcons struggled during the first half of the third period, when the Bruins tallied at the 9:39 mark. That goal served as a wake up call and the home team returned to their earlier solid play, capped by a tremendous effort by Captain
playing in his first game in nearly a month, who notched the fifth Falcons tally of the afternoon. A really enjoyable afternoon at “The Nest”! (until the drive home, that is!)
Somewhat lost in the shuffle were two very similar goals, one by Maks Mayorov and Nik Filatov who notched his first marker as a member of the Falcons. As I mentioned earlier, being able to skip the game tonight in Manchester, the Falcons can now focus on their next game, Wednesday night at home against the Worcester Sharks. The Sharks currently hold a four point lead over the Falcons, so Wednesday’s game should have that “big game” feel. The Birds then wrap up the week on Friday night in Glens Falls, NY skating against the AHL worst, Adirondack Phantoms (Philadelphia Flyers). Currently the Phantoms are 6-24-2-0. Saturday night, the Falcons return to their home ice to take on the division leading Monarchs.
