Dear Cannon Readers, It’s been a wild ride. Thank you.

Dear Cannon Readers,

When I started writing at The Cannon during the 2016-17 season I had no idea what to expect from the site and it’s readers.

Over the years, I have been pleasantly surprised with the family type feel the readers bring to the table.

You’ve embraced my quirks from day one. Quirks such as my recent slam poetry sessions on twitter during games and the fact I laugh way too much on the podcast. You even embraced the episode where we talked about Tiger King. Seriously. God bless anyone who sat through that entire episode. It was wild.

You’ve conversed with me about my player/game analysis and helped me to see the game more clearly. I understand the game much better now because some of you (whether I liked it or not at the time) would question me or straight up tell me I was wrong. I appreciate your willingness to constructively criticize my writing. In the end, it’s made me a better writer and allowed me to see the game in a different light. I appreciate that more than you can know.

What I love the most is the way The Cannon rallied around me during some hard times in my life. From losing someone I love to murder to my dad being in the hospital for COVID to the Akron Racers being shutdown, you never stopped trying to hold me up during my struggles. At times the support and love you showed via DMs, emails, and comments could be overwhelming. BUT how wonderful is it to be overwhelmed with feelings of happiness and love? It’s pretty wonderful, for sure, no doubt.

My co-writers have also been fun to work with and our slack chat is usually, as the kids say, lit. Over the years, I’ve created some pretty special relationships with the people I write with at The Cannon. I appreciate every single one of them.

With that being said, I have recently come to realize that my time at The Cannon has come to an end. It’s time for me to move somewhere else and embrace the professional journalist I know I can be.

Thank you for everything. I will cherish the time I spent at The Cannon for the rest of my life.

Love always,

Elaine
