Blue Jackets trade Riley Nash to Maple Leafs

Riley Nash has been traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a 2022 7th round pick – that 7th becomes a 6th if he plays 25% of Toronto’s playoff games. Nash was acquired by Columbus as a UFA on July 1, 2018. He played 179 games for the Blue Jackets and was set to be a UFA on July 1st. He went 10-23-33 in his 3 seasons with the Blue Jackets and was a core defensive piece, especially on the penalty kill.

He was injured last Sunday against Florida and will likely miss the remainder of the regular season. He’ll be a nice pick up for the Maple Leafs’ Stanley Cup Playoffs push and should be able to contribute defensively and on the penalty kill. In addition, he should help clear some regular season cap space for the Maples Leafs and possibly allow them to make more moves.

Good luck, Riley!
