Columbus Blue Jackets forward Sonny Milano arrested in NYC

According to the New York Post, Blue Jackets forward Sonny Milano and Avalanche player A.J. Greer were involved in a brawl early Sunday morning with a 28-year-old man over a Manhattan nightclub bill. The unidentified man allegedly suffered injuries to his jaw, rib, neck and biceps, but refused medical attention.

According to Aaron Portzline of The Athletic, Milano’s agent has not commented on the situation and GM Jarmo Kekalainen said “We need to investigate this before we comment on it.”

We will update this post with more information as it becomes available.

Milano is a restricted free agent and it has appeared for some time now that the player needs a fresh start for his NHL career. He has often been relegated to AHL Cleveland, as was the case for 2018-19, and was limited to just 27 games as he dealt with a concussion and other injuries. He will no longer be waiver exempt in 2019-20, but with the openings in the top six this may be his best chance to make — and stick — on the roster.

It’s not clear how this incident may affect his position on the depth chart, his next contract, or whether or not the Blue Jackets are able to include him in a trade.
