Cleveland Monsters Season Officially Ends

The Cleveland Monsters season came to an end after the Checkers and Wolves game went to overtime tonight.

The Checkers needed one point to claim the last playoff spot in the division.

One point kept the defending Calder Cup champions from entering the 2016-17 post season.

This season was wild and crazy.

Everything short of the playoffs happened.

Monsters fans were treated to a banner raising, a nine round shootout, a rumble that spilled into the benches, a lose streak that made playoffs seem unreachable, and a win streak that put playoffs within arms reach.

There were tears shed for the Monsters we lost throughout the season.

On the flip side, there were cheers heard round the state for the new players who reignited the Monsters’ spark.

For me, this season was a dream come true. Ever since I was a little girl living in a three-story apartment building on Joliet in Lyons, Illinois I wanted to cover professional sports in Cleveland, Ohio.

There’s a magic in this city which cannot be described. It can only be felt.

The fans are diehard, the writers are passionate, and the players lay it all on the line night in and night out.

This city is special.

I’m thankful for the friends I made along the way and the lessons I have learned.

The staff at Quicken Loans Arena and the Monsters organization never ceased to make me smile. The amount of loving and caring people who work within the walls of the Q make me proud to say “I covered the Cleveland Monsters this year”.

Thank you to all our loyal readers who made this season so much fun to cover.

This season was great.

Next season will be better.

Just watch.
