CBJ Roster Update: David Savard Sent to AHL Springfield
As the Blue Jackets bask in their first win of the season, the return of James Wisniewski--and perhaps the play of John Moore--has apparently prompted a roster move. David Savard has been sent to Springfield today.
The 21-year-old played in seven of the team's first nine games, but was scratched in two of the past three--both vs. Detroit. He has an assist and six PIMs.
With the offensive boost from Aaron Johnson, and John Moore's call-up and not horrible play, it appeared that the Jackets were going to need a move with Wisniewski coming back. I'm a bit surprised that Savard is going back, given his right-handed shot, but given that he doesn't have to go through waivers and is getting close to his ELC kicking in, I see this primarily as a numbers-casualty.
We haven't seen the last of Savard, for sure. It appears that the Jackets are going to ride the hot hands until Marc Methot and Radek Martinek are healthy.
