2023-24 Season
After a breakout post-draft season in 2022-23 in which Dumais scored 140 points in 64 games for the Halifax Mooseheads and earned the QMJHL MVP award, he regressed in 2023-24. He still scored two points per game, but was limited to just 21 games due to a nagging hip injury and a January surgery to repair a hernia. In addition, he was cited in March for driving under the influence, which also earned him a five game suspension. Those charges are still pending.
2024-25 Outlook
Dumais will make his long-awaited professional debut, though it remains to be seen where he is in his recovery from his injuries. When he is cleared to play, he will be playing with the Cleveland Monsters. This is normal for the development of an undersized player who also lacks high-end speed. He needs to adjust to the pace and physicality of the pro game. Fortunately, the Blue Jackets can afford to be patient with him. Teams need goal-scorers and that is something Dumais has shown a knack for (70 goals in 85 games in his final two seasons in Halifax).
