Cannon Blasts – October 8, 2015

Ahhh, hockey is back. The NHL regular season is underway, and the Jackets will get things started tomorrow. You’re almost there, fans. While you wait for the puck to drop in Nationwide Arena, enjoy some links!

  • Here are the details on the Opening Night Party planned before the game.
  • The team seemed to enjoy their couple days in Cleveland.
  • If you haven’t had enough season previews for your liking, check out this one from FanSided.
  • No team took the chance to claim former Jacket defensman Tim Erixon. He’ll stay with the Penguins.
  • Mike Reilly is headed to Iowa after being cut by the Wild. He should face the Monsters to start his professional career according to the schedule.
  • After initially starting on the top line in Chicago in preseason, Marko Dano did not make the Blackhawks team out of camp. Neither did former Jackets Jeremy Morin and Corey Tropp, who were both cut extremely early in camp.
  • Raffi Torres is reportedly not going to appeal his 41-game suspension.
  • After signing a PTO with Colorado, Jack Skille earned a one-year contract with the Avalanche.
  • The Edmonton Oilers are eating a massive cap hit to have Nikita Nikitin not play for them. Nikitin went unclaimed and cleared waivers. He’s on the books for $4.5 million, but the Oilers can only bury $950,000 of that in the AHL.
  • Wrapping up the “Top 10’s” of each position in the Metro, Japers Rink has their list on the centers. Ryan Johansen comes in at #6 and Brandon Dubinsky was an honorable mention.
  • Courtesy of Bovada, here are the O/U point totals for the top line (which we will NOT refer to as the Fright Line here, as far as I’m concerned):

-Ryan Johansen: 72.5

-Nick Foligno: 63.5

-Brandon Saad: 54.5
