Cannon Blasts: Life After the Deadline

The Columbus Blue Jackets went all in this trade deadline.

On the Friday leading up to the deadline, the Jackets made a mid-morning trade that got everyone’s blood pumping. They sent Vitaly Abramov, Jonathan Davidsson, and a few picks to the Ottawa Senators for Matt Duchene.

The next night, Anthony Duclair and a few picks were traded to the Senators for former THE Ohio State University forward Ryan Dzingel.

On trade deadline day, the Jackets made some rather interesting moves. First, they gave up a 2022 fifth round pick for goaltender Keith Kinkaid. Then, they brought back the one and only Adam McQuaid. Talk about nostalgia.

The biggest news to come out of trade deadline is WE HAVE A PODCAST. On February 26th, we dropped our first episode of “The Cannon Cast”. Give it a listen and let us know what you think.

Drop us some questions in the comments of this article and we will pick some to answer when we record the next episode tonight.

Columbus Blue Jackets

Despite a great trade deadline for the Jackets, this past week did not go so well for them.

They kicked the week off on Tuesday with a loss against the flightless birds, 5-2.

Seth Jones was the all-american hero with his overtime winner against the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.

Just when we thought things were going well the Jackets were shutout by the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday afternoon, 4-0.

Good news! The Jackets were not shutout by the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. They lost but they were not shutout!

Cleveland Monsters

Wondering how each individual member of the Cleveland Monsters has been playing? One of our writers breaks down how they did the weekend leading up to trade deadline. You can check it out here.

This past weekend, the Monsters were met with another round of back-to-back-to-back games. They played two games at home against the Laval Rocket and one at the Toronto Marlies.

The Monsters started out strong on Thursday night but ended up flat-lining in the third period, 5-4. They flipped the script Friday night and dominated much of their 4-1 win over the Rocket.

Unfortunately, the Monsters couldn’t use the win to power them on Saturday night against the Marlies. They fell just short of a comeback in the third.
