Cannon Blasts – January 21, 2015

Just one more (I think) ASG-related edition of Cannon Blasts. There’s some other goodies as well.

  • It looks like the 2016 Winter Classic is headed back to Boston and Minnesota Wild fans are ticked.
  • Announced on Tuesday – the Skills Competition format. You will note, “The eligible candidates are forwards Johnny Gaudreau of the Calgary Flames, Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers and Ryan Johansen of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Fans can vote via Twitter for their favorite eligible player by including his hashtag – #NHLBreakawayGiroux, #NHLBreakawayJohansen, #NHLBreakawayGaudreau. Voting will open on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. ET and close on Friday, Jan. 23 at 12 p.m. ET.”

  • The team also sent out this update yesterday as well. If you have children, regardless of age, they will need a ticket for entrance. This is a deviation from the norm for kids under 3 at Nationwide Arena.
  • Nick Foligno sounds like a great captain here and here.
  • NHL.com also interviewed two former Jackets returning for the All-Star festivities: Jakub Voracek and Rick Nash. Jake apparently really liked Easton.
  • More details on NHL’s Fan Fair.
  • And finally, NHL Central Scouting’s 2015 Midterm Rankings of Draft Prospects.

I can confirm the snow slide is up on Nationwide Blvd – they are just waiting for the temperature to dip before making the snow I’m guessing. On that note – if you are traveling to the Arena District in the coming week, note that Nationwide Blvd. is one lane both ways right there at the arena because of the slide. I would plan accordingly if you are driving along that route.

Enjoy the weekend if you’re going to witness some of the action. If you come away with a great story, pictures, etc. feel free to fanpost it on the site. It should be a lot of fun wherever you go in Columbus this weekend!
