Cannon Blasts – February 19, 2015

Wherever you are, I hope you have survived mother nature’s worst this week. It’s been brutal in many parts of the country (and Canada) be it sub-zero temps or snow storms.

Trade rumors are heating up (see what I did there?) – Mark Letestu’s name is being linked to the Rangers, Jets, and Canadiens. If true, the front office clearly does not want to keep Test Tube around long term. Not sure what that means for Arty going forward, considering he was thought to be on his way to Edmonton earlier in the season. Highly unlikely both are moved, but rumors are just rumors for now. Keep an eye out if something does happen on this front. On to the links:

  • Pierre LeBrun writes that unlike most non-playoff teams, the Jackets aren’t looking to massively shake up the roster. Jarmo must have had an audience in Philly because NHL.com has an article stating the same thing.
  • Want to relive some of Scott Hartnell’s greatest moments? Here you go.
  • John Buccigross gives his predictions on which players will play for one team their entire careers and which ones may end up leaving (he gives one of each per team). Bucci likes Joey to be a Jacket for life – his new nickname is now apparently “Secretary of Danglebus” – while he thinks Cam may be out of Columbus sooner rather than later. He also predicts Patrick Kane will not be a Blackhawk for life.
  • The Hockey Writers cover every injury this season for the CBJ and how many games each player has missed.
  • Here‘s a good sign – Columbus does not show up on the list of least desirable destinations according to ten anonymous agents.
  • This article from Pensburgh shows just how “top heavy” the forward scoring has been for the Jackets this season.
  • A local area hockey mom got into a Twitter fight with teenage hockey players./

Lastly, why did Columbus (or @Columbus_Sports) not bid on this:

Portzline said in yesterday’s Dispatch chat that the city sent a bid package in 2005/2006, but that to land the event a smaller (3,000-4,000 seat) arena would need to be built for the non-USA/Canada games.
