Boughner Officially Named Assistant Coach

As reported yesterday, the Blue Jackets have made it official: former NHLer Bob Boughner, most recently the head coach of the Windsor Spitfires, is the Jackets’ newest assistant coach, finishing out the staff for head coach Scott Arniel.

The back to back Memorial Cup winner also brings 630 NHL games worth of experience to the team, and a 166-80-26 record as a head coach.

Boughner will be working with the forwards and coaching the power play, but don’t expect him to just be an offensive specialist. Remember that recent 2010 draftee Austin Watson, who we profiled, became the OHL’s top shot blocker and defensive forward while playing for Boughner. While coach Arniel will be laying out the plans, don’t be surprised if we see Boughner helping to mold the team’s offensive strategies towards the same high mobility attacks that he’s used so successfully in Windsor.
