Blue Jackets Will Introduce Captain On Wednesday

A captain is coming.

The Blue Jackets quietly leaked the news to some season ticket holders earlier today, and then Aaron Portzline broke the news via Puck Rakers. The team will be holding a special press conference on Wednesday where they’ll be introducing the 6th Captain in the history of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The players have been vocal that they want a recognized leader in the room, and by all accounts the front office agreed. We’ve made our best guesses, along with just about everyone else who has been watching this team, and the odds on favorite has to be Nick Foligno – though Boone Jenner, Scott Hartnell, and Brandon Dubinsky all bring qualities that would make them solid options.

So. Five more days (or so) and we will finally have our answer.

More importantly – as nice as it is that the team is making a special announcement and getting it out there…why now? It’s an odd “dead” part of the year for the team – after the end of their season, before the really big offseason activities like the entry draft or free agency. It’ll be interesting to see if there’s a reason behind this decision.

Regardless, it’s nice to know it’s a question that we can finally put to bed.

A captain is coming. Great times are ahead.
