Blue Jackets, RFA defenseman Scott Harrington agree to new deal

It was just that announced that the Columbus Blue Jackets have agreed to a new three-year contract with their RFA defenseman — no not Zach Werenski — Scott Harrington!

Harrington, of course, comes off a career year for him, in which he played a career high 73 games, scored his first two NHL career goals, and added 15 assists for a 17 point campaign. Per Jarmo Kekalainen from Bluejackets.com:

“Scott Harrington is a very smart, reliable defenseman who made great strides to become a regular contributor on our blueline last season. He works very hard and has continued to improve steadily over the past three seasons. Scott has shown himself to be an excellent leader who has earned the respect of his coaches and teammates and we look forward to his continued contributions to our club.”

Here are the terms of the deal.

With one more RFA signed, and the big fish in Werenski still looming for Columbus, you wonder how this, and any of the other preceding deals could play out with regard to Werenski’s contract situation going forward, if at all. Should be fun to monitor!
