A day after finishing their exhibition season with a win in Carolina, the Blue Jackets made a few roster moves in order to trim their roster to 29, which includes four players on Injured Reserve.
Forward Tomas Kubalik, who saw much of his training camp hampered by a concussion suffered in his first exhibition game, is being sent back to Springfield in the AHL. He showed some promise toward the end of camp once he was given a clean bill of health, and it’s hard to imagine him not being in the immediate discussion should an injury dictate a future move.
Also sent to Springfield was defenseman John Moore. This move was not unexpected, given the play of David Savard coupled with Moore’s own play. Moore will start his second pro season again in Springfield, looking to improve on his first year which saw some promise, but also some room for improvement.

The Jackets placed three additional players on waivers for the purposes of sending them to Springfield. Those players are forwards Martin St. Pierre and Alexandre Giroux, and defenseman Nick Holden. None of these moves is really surprising, though Giroux showed flashes of the scoring touch that he has demonstrated in the AHL throughout his career.
In addition to these moves, the Jackets also placed forward Jared Boll on Injured Reserve, as Boller broke his right thumb in a fight with Carolina’s Bryan Allen last night and is out for an anticipated six to eight weeks. Boll joins Theo Ruth, Mark Dekanich, and Kristian Huselius on the club’s IR list.
