Quick Takes: Jackets crush Islanders

A lesson in how to play the first game after the bye week.

This season saw the introduction of the bye week.

Generally speaking, teams have played like garbage in the first game or two after the bye, and you just know coaches are not in favor of the player-requested mandatory break. (If you play fantasy hockey, you surely also think the bye weeks are shit)

The Jackets are the exception to this. With a 7-0 win over the visiting Islanders, they are just the sixth of 22 teams to win in the first game after the bye.

A recap of the 7 goals:

1 - Jack Johnson got the credit for a goal that deflected off of Nick Leddy’s arse.

2 - Boone cleaned up the trash after a Cam Atkinson shot on Thomas Greiss

3 - Foligno with his first of two goals on the night. After receiving a sweet pass from Wennberg the captain went forehand-backhand to beat Greiss.

4 - With J-F Berube replacing Greiss, Josh Anderson scored his first of two goals.

5 - Anderson scored his second of the game after wiring a shot up high.

6 - Fliggy again, and again he went forehand-backhand to beat the goalie.

7 - He was great all night, and he deserved to be rewarded with a goal. David Savard capped off the blowout.

FINAL SCORE: 7-0 Jackets
