Blue Jackets at Canucks: Quick Takes

FIRST PERIOD

Uh… the puck bounced and nothing else happened.

Oh wait. Ladyfriend reminded me that Sedin (pick one, I forget which) had a chance that slid right through Bob’s legs and out the other side wide of the net.

SECOND PERIOD

ATKINSON OPENS THE SCORING. Finally. On a power play, Zach Werenski let a shot fly that was blocked right to a waiting Cam Atkinson, who wasted no time burying the rebound into a gaping net.

KNEEL BEFORE SAAD. Brandon Saad buried a power play goal at 13:15 to make it 2-0 Columbus. Scott Hartnell deserves all the credit for that one, his through the legs backward feed to Saad was a thing of absolute beauty.

In the midst of a parade to the penalty box to end the period (seriously guys, clean it up- lazy stickwork is bad), Matt Calvert rang a shot off the cross bar.

2-0 at the end of 2. 20 minutes to go. Our power play is good.

THIRD PERIOD

Ryan Murray gets out of the box and goes right back in for cross checking at 2:01. He’s having an awful season, right after signing his bridge deal. Hope he gets it together soon.

And, well, that was inevitable. Brandon Sutter cuts the lead to 2-1 at 2:51 of the third. Get your legs going, guys.

Well, damn. That sucks a lot. An unlucky deflection from a Daniel Sedin one timer off of Jack Johnson and into the net tied the game at 7:42. Daniel Sedin has notched 16-33-49 against the Jackets in his career with that goal.

These are the first two goals the Jackets have given up in the third period in the month of December.

KNEEL BEFORE SAAD. Foligno to Wennberg to Saad to the back of the net when they had to have it. What an excellent feed to find Saad with 4:40 to go. Wennberg, despite not scoring a lot of goals, has some of the best vision on the team.

Goal for the Canucks, who tie it with 1:09 to go. The goal hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced it. The Canucks just won’t go away. That was a seeing eye shot from Hanson. On replay, it appears to glance off of Murray and in. He’s had a night to forget.
