Birthplace: Longueuil, Quebec

Acquired: Selected in the Third Round (#96 overall) by Columbus in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft

2024-25 Season

Dumais was a hot prospect, coming off a 109 point season prior to getting drafted. He followed that by a 54/86/140 effort in 64 gams for the Halifax Mooseheads, plus another 21 points in 15 games in a deep playoff run.

By this point, in a just system, then-19-year-old Dumais should have moved up a level to the AHL. Instead, he had to return to Halifax for one more season, and that’s where the troubles started. He became beset by injuries, and also a DUI in March 2024.

He had one more surgery before last season to resolve his nagging hip and groin injuries, and in December was finally able to make his professional debut. He scored four goals and 11 points in just 21 games with the Cleveland Monsters.

2025-26 Outlook

Dumais will return to the Monsters for the second season of his three-year entry level contract. For the first time in awhile, he has had a “normal” offseason. His DUI charges were dropped, and he should be fully recovered from his surgeries now. Rather than recovery, his off-season workouts could be focused on conditioning.

He was also selected as the Columbus representative at the recent NHLPA Rookie Showcase, which suggests that he’s still viewed as someone believed to still be on track to reach the NHL.

There are enough undersized wingers that Dumais’s height shouldn’t be too much of a limiting factor. However, his skating has long been seen as a weakness, and most other short wingers can compensate for size with speed. Is Dumais truly slow, or were his mid-body injuries restricting him more than we knew?

The goal this season shouldn’t be to reach the NHL, but to focus on putting together a healthy, productive season in the AHL.
