Much has been made of what Monahan had to endure this season with the loss of his friend. I won’t spend too much time on that, except to say this: What Monahan was able to do this season was a tremendous honor to the legacy of Johnny Gaudreau. Sean should be incredibly proud of the way he was able to play in memory of John.
Werenski and Monahan were the two players who impacted this team the most this season. Their presence and play set the stage for a breakout season for the current core. Monahan is already the best center this organization has ever had. Hopefully, Fantilli will take that title eventually, but for now, Monahan has both the offensive and defensive skills needed to lead this team to the playoffs next season.

Contract
Monahan is signed through the 2027-28 season with a cap hit of $5.5m. What a steal.
High Point
How could it not be his goal at the home opener, which was dedicated to the celebration of Gaudreau’s life? After scoring, Monahan raised his arm and pointed to the #13 banner hanging from the rafters.
Low Point
Sean’s injury in Pittsburgh on January 7th was the most significant reason the Jackets missed the playoffs. If that injury hadn’t happened, or if he had only missed half the games he did, they almost certainly would have been in the postseason.
Report Card
A+
He played at over a point per game, centered the league’s best line, and did it all while battling the emotions of losing his best friend. Well done, Sean. We can’t wait to see you hit the ice next season.
