2021 Player Review: Eric Robinson found a consistent spot in the lineup

Eric Robinson became a mainstay in the lineup this year, playing all 56 games and appearing in each game for the first time in his career. Robinson performed admirably, putting up 18 points in a career high 12:24 per night. His scoring total was good for eighth on the team.

One can’t help but wonder if Robinson could have been served by playing more minutes per night, especially down the stretch as the team packed it in and clearly was bottoming out. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Perhaps the next staff will have a focus on developing younger players.

Robinson’s speed was truly an asset this season. If he can work on his puck handling and finishing, he can develop into a real difference maker in the bottom six that the team can utilize in mismatches. Hopefully he finds a way to develop those skills.

Contract Status

Robinson has one more year remaining on his extension that he signed on January 27, 2020. Robinson will make $975,000 in actual cash next year while counting for that same amount against the salary cap.

High Point

Robinson had a two point night against Tampa Bay three times this year, the final time in an overtime loss – he scored two goals, both at even strength. Columbus lost 4-3 in overtime, but it was Robinson’s only two goal game of the season.

Low Point

Robinson’s low point was a weekend series at the Nashville Predators on February 27 and 28 – Columbus was swept aside in both games, beginning the slow decline and the end of the season. Robinson played less than eight minutes in each game, taking just 25 total shifts over two days, looking largely invisible over the course of the weekend.
