Dream team: Ohio athletes who never won a title

It’s okay, Rick Nash - I’ve never won a national championship either.

So much in life is dependent on timing. You can do everything right, put in all the work, and still get screwed by the way the timing works out. So here’s a quick shoutout to the professional athletes in Ohio teams who are stars in their own right, but were never awarded a national title.

I relied heavily on my Cannon colleagues when gathering these suggestions, because I won’t for one second pretend to be an authority on professional sports outside of my Columbus teams and the NHL. I would also love to know what you guys are thinking - sound off in the comments if there’s anyone not mentioned here on this list that you feel should be noted!

Another question to consider: if we could hypothetically gather these athletes into a team, what sport would they play?

  • Rick Nash (Blue Jackets, 2002-2012)
  • Federico Higuaín (Columbus Crew, 2012-2020)
  • Joey Votto (Cincinnati Reds, 2007-2019)
  • Joe Thomas (Cleveland Browns, 2007-2017)
  • Jim Thome (Cleveland Indians, 1991-2002)
  • Mark Price (Cleveland Cavaliers, 1986-1999)
  • Anthony Muñoz (Cincinnati Bengals, 1980-1992)
