Want to hear a ghost story?

Once upon a time, a hockey fan woke up in late October ... and discovered that his hockey season had disappeared. AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

OoOoOoOoOoOoO that’s spooky, right?

Anyway, we are stuck in a holding pattern here, now that the big off-season moments have come and gone and we still don’t know when the 2020-21 NHL season will start. I’m normally not a big Halloween fan, but I’ve been a little more open to holiday content this year because, well, what else am I going to watch?

Let’s look at how the Columbus Blue Jackets celebrated over the weekend.

First, someone made the Captain angry on his birthday:

The Atkinson family went with a group costume:

I don’t know if this counts as a costume, but nonetheless enjoy this pic of Max Domi’s Very Good Dog:

This year’s winner, however, is a blast from the past:

Did anyone here have a good costume this year? What is your favorite costume ever? Which Halloween candies are the best? My vote goes to either Kit-Kats or Twix.

The week that was

Jarmo Kekalainen and his beautiful family participated in a fundraising walk for the JDRF. His daughter, Emilia, has juvenile diabetes. You can donate to her team page here.

Prospect Yegor Chinakhov has continued to have a great rookie season in the KHL. He was named rookie of the month for October:

He added another goal yesterday:

I profiled Boone Jenner and wondered whether he’ll benefit from a move back to wing.

Rachel talked about some new jerseys recently unveiled across the league. Will and I also discussed the possibility of a “retro” jersey for the Blue Jackets this season on the Cannon Cast.

MrSwift looked back over Jarmo’s drafts to see if he was meeting his own stated expectations for how many contributors each class should produce.

Ohio Sports Update

Joe Burrow’s been having a great rookie season in Cincinnati, even if that hasn’t led to team success for the Bengals. That changed yesterday with a big upset win over Tennessee.

The Browns have a two week bye, apparently.

Play me out

Like many, I was introduced to singer-songwriter Lera Lynn via her work on Season 2 of True Detective. Since then, I have followed her career with great interest. Recently, she released her latest album, On My Own. As the title suggests, in addition to writing every song she also played all the instruments and produced it herself. It’s hard for me to describe her sound. As a child of the south there is definitely an old school country or folk element to her work, but over time she has incorporated more and more modern elements of contemporary music. Her voice has a haunting quality to it that is only amplified by harmonizing with itself (on the studio recordings).
