Anaheim Ducks (17-20-5, 39 pts, 7th Pacific, 14th West)

Columbus Blue Jackets (19-15-8, 46 pts, 6th Metro, 10th East)

A disclaimer – This was written prior to last night’s game against Los Angeles. Stats are reflective of this as well.

When we last saw the Anaheim Ducks, it was all the way back in early October. Anaheim was looking alright, sitting at 3-1-0 with John Gibson in mid-season form. Well, it didn’t really last. The Ducks are among the worst teams in the West, with only the Los Angeles Kings below them in the division. They, like their opponent…and their opponent’s last opponent… are having a hard time putting the puck in the goal. The special teams are bad as well. In theory, this is an opponent that Columbus should be able to beat considering the recent run of good play (not including whatever last night’s result was). Gibson has been good, but not great, with a .906 sv% and 2.95 GAA. I have a hard time thinking that’s his fault though.

As for Columbus? Well, you saw everything Mr.Swift wrote here. There’s not much I can add other than the hope that if Cam and Nuti didn’t play last night, they will play tonight. Also, the last time Anaheim played, they got a coach fired. So.

Player to Watch

Markus Nutivaara

Nuti has been out injured for the majority of the season. How did he look last night? However he looked, I hope it is better today. Nutivaara is the third (or fourth, when Murray is around) of the defensemen with the ability to stretch a defense with accurate passes to help spring the offense. That’s something missing lately – Z and Jones are doing the scoring themselves and not necessarily kicking off the transition game with stretch passes. That’s what I’d like to see from Nuti – a nice stretch pass…right onto PLD’s stick and then to the back of the net.

Jackets Notes

Hopefully there are no new injuries.

The Other Bench

John Gibson has started 32 of 43 games…similar ratio for Joonas Korpisalo and Elvis Merzlikins… if the Ducks are selling this year, should the Jackets buy?...
