On the heels of a disappointing weekend, the Columbus Blue Jackets traveled to take on the New Jersey Devils in what was almost a must win game against a struggling team.

Here’s what happened.

Cam Atkinson scored 52 seconds into the game to give the CBJ a 1-0 lead as he set a career high in goals with his 36th of the season.

The Jackets only registered four shots on goal but led 1-0 on the scoreboard.

The Devils, who dominated play after the Columbus goal and carried the run of play as Travis Zajac equalized on an odd man rush.

Despite New Jersey hitting the post on a late power play, Columbus did enough to force overtime.

The Jackets couldn’t find a way in overtime, but goals from Cam Atkinson and Artemi Panarin won it in the shootout.
