Until the deadline happens, the show must go on. The Jackets and Cleveland Monsters had a full slate of games this past week.
On Tuesday, February 12th, the Jackets played host to the 2018 Stanley Cup Champions, the Washington Capitals. They extended their win streak to four games after shutting out the Caps. Yes, they celebrated by mocking Evgeny Kuznetsov’s bird celebration. It was glorious.
Valentine’s Day is supposed to be a day of love and happiness. Unfortunately, this was not the case for the Jackets. The New York Islanders came into town and broke Cupid’s arrow in half with a shut out win over the Jackets.
Have no fear. The week wasn’t lost. With their moms in tow, the Jackets traveled to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Blackhawks. The moms must have been good luck since the Jackets took down the Hawks, 5-2.
The Monsters had quite the busy week.
On February 12th, the Monsters took down their foe, the Rochester Americans, in a crazy 5-2 win in regulation. Vitaly Abramov and Kole Sherwood provided two goals each in the win.
Then, the Monsters head out on a crazy roadtrip where they played back-to-back-to-back games against the Belleville Senators and Utica Comets.
The Monsters won their first game against the Senators in a shootout, 2-1. Nikita Korostelev came up big with a goal in regulation and the shootout. The next night was not as kind to the Monsters as they fell to the Senators, 4-2, in regulation. You can read about the series against the Senators here.
In their final game of the back-to-back-to-back, the Monsters started out strong against the Comets. You never would have guessed they were playing their third game in three days. Unfortunately, a disastrous third period caused the Monsters to lose in overtime.
