After missing much of the 2018-19 season with an injury, Nathan Gerbe came into the 2019-20 season a new man. The 33 year old forward was skating circles around players 10 years his junior. Gerbe also took his duties as captain of the Cleveland Monsters, alongside Zac Dalpe, to heart offering advice to teammates both on and off the ice.
Throughout the 2019-20 season, Gerbe had five multipoint games with the Monsters. One of those came in the beginning of the year when Gerbe assisted three goals on October 18th, 2019. He also had a seven game point streak from November 27th, 2019 to December 13th, 2019. During that span of time, Gerbe played at over a point per game pace notching nine points.
Gerbe’s ability to consistently get on the score sheet is ultimately what led to the Jackets calling him up as the injury bug hit.

Contract Status
On February 2nd, 2020, the Blue Jackets signed Nathan Gerbe to a two-year contract extension expiring after the 2021-22 season.
High Point
Gerbe received a call up from the Blue Jackets a few days before Christmas and immediately made an impact. In 13 games spanning from December 23rd, 2019 to January 18th, 2020, Gerbe notched eight points. He seamlessly slid into the line up and offered help in the one area the Jackets struggled, scoring.
Another one of Gerbe’s high points came on February 20th, 2020 when he annihilated Claude Giroux and then dropped Travis Sanheim.
Low Point
Due to Gerbe’s dependability and consistency, it is difficult to find a juicy low point in the 2019-20 season. Especially since Gerbe knows how to clean up after himself in the event of a mishap. The only unfortunate thing to happen this season was the lower body injury he sustained towards the end of the regular season. If the pandemic didn’t put the season on pause, Gerbe would have been done playing for the rest of the year.
