Liam Foudy, the 18th overall pick in the 2018 NHL draft, began the season with the London Knights of the OHL after failing to make the Columbus Blue Jackets roster out of training camp. After a rash of injuries to the Jackets, Foudy was a surprise call up on February 10. Due to OHL rules, he could only appear in games for the Jackets so long as he did not miss any games for the Knights. As a result, Foudy only made two appearances in the regular season, notching one assist in a loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
Once the team reconvened in the bubble, Foudy earned regular playing time in the lineup. Freed from his OHL obligations, Foudy played in all ten games in the bubble and scored his first goal for the club. He also played 42 minutes in the epic five-overtime game against the Lightning, the fifth-most minutes of any forward for the Jackets in that contest.
Next season, Foudy will likely start on the Blue Jackets roster out of training camp. Here’s hoping he can take some of the lessons from his brief appearances with the big club and apply them to his first full season in the NHL.

Liam Foudy scored the first goal of his NHL career in game five of the play-in round against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Hard to find a higher high than that for a rookie.
Low Point
As the Tampa Bay series went on, Foudy’s game fell off as he struggled with the speed and skill of the Lightning. This came to a head in game four where Foudy took just seven shifts, playing 5:34 in a must-win game for the Blue Jackets.
