Goal Recap

Tonight was Carter Camper Bobblehead Night. So, it was only fitting that Camper was the highlight of tonight’s game.

The first goal of the night came courtesy of Mr. Bobblehead himself, Camper, 5:36 into the first period. After receiving a pass from Garrett Cockerill he fired a rocket of a shot into the net from the right faceoff circle.

A little over a minute later, Tyler Motte puts the Monsters up 2-0 with a bomb from the left faceoff circle.

The Stockton Heat got on the board with 7:41 left in the first period. A wicked shot from Dalton Proud (yes, that Dalton Prout) squeaked past the top of Joonas Korpisalo’s shoulder into the net.

Garrett Cockerill turned the puck over at the blue line with 1:59 left in the first period. Brett Pollock took off with the puck and fired it past Korpisalo from the near faceoff dot.

The Monsters and Heat ended the first period tied at two.

Motte scored his second goal of the night 2:13into the second period. Alex Broadhurst backhanded the puck from the board to Motte who dropped to his knee before firing it behind Mason McDonald.

Ten minutes later, Sonny Milano took a cue from Motte and dropped to one knee before firing the puck from the near right faceoff dot.

With 10.2 seconds left in the second period, Camper extended the Monsters lead to 5-2 after one timing shot from a hair above the goal line.

The Monsters ended the second period ahead of the Heat, 5-2.

Ryan Faragher replaced McDonald in net at the start of the third period.

The lone goal in the third period was scored by the Heat with 6:23 left in the game. Oliver Kylington went topshelfon Korpisalo from the faceoff dot.

Monsters ended the game on top of the Heat, 5-3.

But Wait! There’s More

Quick Thoughts

  • It seems as thought the Heat made it a point to study the Broadhurst brothers. McDonald knew every move they were going to make and the Heat constantly double-teamed them. This may have stopped them from scoring goals but it did not stop them from setting up incredible plays.
  • The Monsters went two for three on the power play. It’s finally starting to become one of the best things about this team.
  • Ryan Collins is a beast in the crease. If an opponent got too close to Korpisalo tonight, he literally threw them out of the way.
  • Brett Gallant broke up a few plays and forced a few turnovers. Once he gets cooking there’s no stopping him.
  • Yet again, Nick Moutrey placed himself in front of the net to distract the goalie. He knows the perfect time and place to plant his body near the crease to block the goalie’s line of vision.
  • The Monsters have won four of their last six games. This is a phenomenal stat considering the fact there was a time when they won four in one month. Camper attributes it to the team they have on the ice right now.

“We have a better team right now. We have a lot of guys in our lineup who are contributing, signed some guys like Gerbe, and gotten some guys down for extended periods of time like Dalpe and Schroeder that have contributed in this league.” - Carter Camper

  • Garrett Cockerill had a phenomenal night tonight assisting on two of the Monsters six goals. He has been a welcome addition to the team.
  • “He’s been great for us. I looked at his points today before the game and actually made the comment that he should have a lot more points. He does a lot of really good things.” - Head Coach John Madden
