The Cleveland Monsters head north of the border today to take on the Toronto Marlies. They have one thing on their mind, winning. Last season didn’t go well for the Monsters. So, the best way for the Monsters to show the league they aren’t a bottom dwelling team is to take down the Calder Cup Champions on banner raising day.
It won’t be an easy game for the Monsters as the Marlies have a lot of scoring power on their side. They have managed to score 12 goals over the course of their first two games. The Monsters will need to shut the Marlies down as fast as possible. If you give the Marlies an inch, they will take a mile. Keeping the crease clear and staying out of the goalies way will prove beneficial to the Monsters. Cleveland has three great goalies. Trusting them to do their job and providing them with backup when needed will give them the upper hand over the Marlies.
Luckily, the Marlies defense is on the weak side. Attacking the net and creating traffic in front of the crease will drive the Marlies’ defense insane. Play will likely get aggressive in front of the net. How the Monsters respond to that aggression will set the tone for the rest of the season. The East is an old school hockey conference. Being confident and using the right amount of aggression will take a team far in this conference.
It should be a fun game to watch.
