Left wing, Joel Farabee, is a commit for Boston University in the upcoming 2018-19 season. So regardless of which NHL club drafts him next month in Dallas, you can figure to see him play alongside another fellow NHL draft prospect, and fellow Boston University product, Brady Tkachuck, who we wrote about last week.

Farabee has been projected as a top-15 pick and coming off a huge year in which he captained the US National 18 team, scoring 76 points (33 goals, 43 assists) it’s easy to see why. He also comes off solid playing time with USTNDP Juniors in which he added another 40 points (15 goals, 25 assists), finishing as the teams’ second-leading scorer across 26 games, and eight more points (4-4) for the USA U18 club in seven games, which his team won Silver. Farabee won U18 WJC Top 3 Player on Team

As far as his NHL prospects, some models have the Philadelphia Flyers, slated to draft with the 14th selection, as a potential possibility to land the talented 18-year-old. Here’s some of that, and much more on Farabee from around the league.

Cam Robinson, Dobber Prospects:

Slight and slippery, he feasts on oppositions with his vision and his finishing ability. Great skater who works tirelessly in all three zones. Had a tremendous season with the USNTDP this year. He thrived while playing with Wahlstrom and 2019-eligible super-prospect, Jack Hughes, and didn’t miss a beat while anchoring his own line. Needs to add strength but does all the little things that make players successful. Can hurt you during all situations. Getting a high-ceiling player in this part of the draft is a coup.

NHL.com writers Adam Kimelman, Mike G. Morreale and Guillaume Lepage:

Kimelman — Joel Farabee, LW, USA U-18 (USHL): The Flyers have drafted a number of talented forwards the past two years, including five in the first four rounds in 2017. But what separates Farabee (5-11, 164) is his speed, combined with a high hockey IQ and a quick-release shot that produced 33 goals this season.

Morreale — Farabee: Farabee, a two-way puck mover with outstanding vision, plays a hard game in all areas of the rink. Committed to play at Boston University next season, he’s earned praise for his passing, hockey sense and compete level. Farabee was second with the NTDP under-18 team with 74 points (33 goals, 41 assists) in 60 games. He had eight power-play goals and four game-winning goals.

Lepage — Farabee: He was part of arguably the best line at the World U-18 Championship, along with Wahlstrom and 2019 draft prospect Jack Hughes; he had eight points (four goals, four assists) to help the U.S. win the silver medal. He’s impressed scouts with his work ethic and hockey IQ.

Future Considerations:

Farabee is a very high- energy, big–effort player with skill…he never stops moving his feet or finding ways to try to be a factor on the ice…has jersey-flapping speed…his ability to change pace is impressive and allows him to stay elusive…possesses good puck control, and has a dogged willingness to take the puck to the net…has creative hands and can pull a skilled one-on-one move to gain space…moves the puck around the ice extremely well, connecting with good strong passes that lead his linemates effectively…not scared to shoot the puck when presented the opportunity…has a quick release but lacks velocity on his shot at this stage…keeps moving in the offensive zone, and that creates a lot of space and time for he and his teammates, and in doing so he generates a lot of offensive opportunities…he excels in all zones, providing his team with a tireless work ethic, strong defensive play, and some offensive flair…has the low-end potential of a strong third liner with speed who can help a penalty kill, or a high-end upside as a top-six scorer who can contribute on special teams. (July 2017)

Sam Cosentino, Sportsnet:

Perfect combination of work ethic, production and character. He will have to add to his slight frame.

Steve Kournianos, Sporting News:

One of the more opportunistic forwards available, Farabee is a quick-skating offensive force who served as Team USA’s captain. You’re not going to find many teenagers who exploit turnovers better than this Syracuse-area native, who this year combined with Wahlstrom to form one of the USHL’s most lethal duos.

Tom Dougherty, NBC Sports Philadelphia

Farabee finished as the 12th-rated North American skater by Central Scouting. Possesses excellent speed and a strong shot and plays an effective two-way game. A little undersized but the game has changed, so that shouldn’t be a major issue. He had 15 goals and 40 points in 26 games for Team USA in the USHL in 2017-18, and 33 goals and 76 points in 64 games for the USA U-18 team in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program.

TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button:

Excellent sense with very good skills and he can play in just about any spot in your forward group in all situations.
