2018 CBJ Top 25 Under 25: #13 Lukas Sedlak

We have hit our first Blue Jackets regular in our Top 25 Under 25 countdown here with Lucky 13 (my favorite number – how PD knew that, I’m not sure). Let’s take a look at Lukas Sedlak.

Voting

13th out of 55 eligible players (1124 points)
Highest placement: #6 (1 ballot)
Most common placement: #16 (13 ballots)

Biography

Birthdate: February 25, 1993
Birthplace: Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic
Height: 6’0”
Weight: 205
Position: C
Acquired: Drafted by Columbus in the sixth round (158th overall) in 2011

2017-18 Season

Sedlak saw a bit of a downturn in production in his sophomore campaign in just about every category, including games played (53 compared to 62 in 2017/18), goals (four compared to seven), assists (four compared to six) and even shots (50 compared to 57).

In the faceoff circle, he sat middle of the pack for the Jackets, winning 51.5% of even-strength showdowns. The fancy stats tell a bit of a similar story as well – he logged a 49.2% CF% (22nd of 33 players) and a 50.3% FF% (21nd of 33 players) while settled on the fourth line for the Jackets.

2018-19 Forecast

Sedlak will look for a bit of a bounce back season in his third year in Union Blue, and he should be nestled in on the fourth line once again. What does success for Sedlak look for in the upcoming season? If he can post career bests in 2018/19, we’ll be a-okay.

What interests me is that Sedlak actually came in a little lower than his most common placement. So, I ask you all – what is it you like about him? What do you think is in store for him this season and what does a “good,” campaign look like?
