2016 NHL Free Agency Open Thread

It would appear the Blue Jackets will not be major players in the free agent frenzy, which kicks off today at noon. Of course, Jarmo has been known to pull some surprising moves so we’ll have to see.

On the CBJ front, there appear to be two storylines at the moment. Will hometown boy and first Central Ohioan drafted in the NHL, Trent Vogelhuber, sign an NHL contract with the Blue Jackets? Vogelhuber has been on AHL deals with Springfield and Lake Erie in recent seasons, but has been offered a two-way deal by Columbus. It would be a nice chapter in the book, and Jarmo has said Vogelhuber has the potential to be a penalty killer should the team need a call up. The last pick of the 2007 NHL Draft can test the free agent waters today.

Also of note for Jackets fans will be if teams looking for a middle six winger miss out on their free agent targets. That would increase the demand for one Scott Hartnell, who the front office is still (probably) shopping. After the initial round of signings are over, Hartnell could be on the move.

Aaron Portzline is reporting Jared Boll, now a free agent, could end up in Ottawa. Some of the top free agents? Lucic has been linked to Edmonton for quite some time. Andrew Ladd could end up in Brooklyn. Loui Eriksson may be a Canuck. Frans Nielsen is reportedly showing interest in signing with Detroit. At least, that is what the early morning rumblings are at the moment.

Until those moves actually happen, feel free to check out these fanposts on the Development Camp this week.

Stay tuned and feel free to discuss all the on-goings here.
