2014 NHL Draft: Jackets Select Olivier Leblanc 197th Overall

The Jackets go back to the Q to select defenseman Oliver Leblanc with their final pick in the draft.

The Jackets continued to shore up their defense by selecting Olivier Leblanc of the Saint John Sea Dogs. Leblanc is a puck-moving defenseman.

Scouting report and stats:

Leblanc is a smooth skating puck moving defenseman who sees the ice extremely well and makes crisp tape-to-tape passes. Skates well and is poised with the puck but needs to gain strength and improve defensively. - Elite Prospects

Like Pelletier, I'll have plenty of opportunities to see Leblanc play live, when he travels to Halifax to play the Mooseheads. His selection was part of an effort to bulk up the depth and talent of the defense prospect pool. I like the pick a lot, and here's hoping he ends up contributing like a David Savard down the line.
