2013 NHL Draft: Jackets Draft Oliver Bjorkstrand 89th Overall

The Jackets went into the draft without a third-round pick, as it was sent to the Rangers as part of the Rick Nash deal. To remedy that, Jarmo Kekalainen swapped the 44th pick for the 50th choice (used on Dillon Heatherington) and the 89th pick, a third rounder.

With that third rounder, the Jackets pulled off a minor steal in drafting Dane Oliver Bjorkstrand of the Portland Winterhawks.

He’s an undersized offensive forward playing in a terrific program in Portland. He needs to bulk up and work on his skating, but there is some serious potential there.
