Today in the "A": Midweek Notes

Legendary Springfield sportswriter, Garry Brown has a new article posted regarding Brett Lebda joining the Springfield Falcons.

A couple of points, if you don't have time to check it out:

* Jackets Assistant GM Chris MacFarland reached out to Lebda, and was responsible for the signing.

* Alexandre Giroux will be reunited on the first line with Martin St. Pierre and Ryan Russell

* Coach Rob Riley on the Jackets' rocky start:
"They’re getting some key guys back from injury. Give them a chance to play at full strength."

The Falcons opponent this Friday night, the Portland Pirates, get a dose of reality today as they take on the Manchester Monarchs in an 11AM game in Manchester.

Some of the teams in the "A" schedule 11AM starts once or twice a year, so schools can bring their students to the game as a field trip. Not like any field trip that I remember, that's for sure!

At least this game will be skated in Manchester, hopefully avoiding the horror that some parents felt after last March's Pirates - Sharks tilt in Portland.

Worse yet, Kevin Dineen (coach of the Pirates at that time), apologized. For fights. In a hockey game.

Speaking of the Monarchs: (from the AHL website)
Manchester Monarchs right wing Jordan Nolan has been suspended for two (2) games as a consequence of an elbowing incident in a game vs. Providence on Nov. 4.

One last stat from Saturday in Philly: (also from the AHL)
On recall from Adirondack, 2011 AHL All-Rookie defenseman Erik Gustafsson logged a team-high 23:00 of ice time and was a plus-6 in Philadelphia’s 9-2 win over Columbus on Nov. 5.
