2011 Draft Prospect Profile #5- Jonathan Huberdeau

Position: Center
Age: 17
Date of Birth: June 4, 1993
Place of Birth: Saint-Jerome, QC
Ht: 6-1 Wt: 170
Shoots: Left

Huberdeau is currently ranked third on the Central Scouting’s Ranking list. That said, Huberdeau could be a player who slides a bit, potentially to the Jackets at eighth in the order. Huberdeau has been a force for the powerful Saint John Sea Dogs all season, who are currently in the QMJHL finals against Gatineau. Huberdeau is an offensive wizard, able to create offense from nothing and he has the ability to dominate games at the junior level.

Scouting Report (NHL.com):

“He’s the type of player who can change the outcome of a game suddenly and quickly. He’s displayed unbelievably quick hands and an ability to set up and score goals. He definitely has NHL hands and playmaking ability . . . he’s also gritty and does not back down when challenged.”

Why he’d be a good fit in Columbus:

If the Jackets decide to keep the pick, and Huberdeau is available, he would be a fantastic compliment to Ryan Johansen up the middle. Johansen is generally considered the favorite to be Rick Nash‘s partner in crime, leaving Huberdeau as number two center.
