16th Overall Mock Draft Pick - David Rundblad

With the 16th overall pick in the 2009 NHL (Mock) Entry Draft, The Cannon, representing the Columbus Blue Jackets, is proud to select defenseman David Rundblad of Sweden.
16. David Rundblad, Skelleftea (Swe): The Blue Jackets look to add some serious skill on the back-end. Rundblad will quickly become a vital piece to the young core in Columbus.

Height / Weight: 6'2'' / 185 lbs
Position: Defense
Shoots: Right
Drafted From: Skelleftea (Sweden)
The 6'2'' 18 year old, who currently plays in the Swedish Elite League would be a great addition to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Mike previously posted his thoughts on Rundblad in his post about Potential CBJ First Round Picks:
Rundblad is a part of a strong Swedish contingent who could go in the first round of the draft. He is another offensive defenseman, who can do almost anything he wishes in the offensive zone. This comes at a bit of a cost however, as Rundblad is less than polished in his own end. He has the size (6-2, 190) to be a physical presence, but defensive awareness is something that can be coached. He sees the ice very well, and is ideal as a powerplay QB.
After reading up on Rundblad, he's quickly becoming my second favorite potential CBJ pick behind Ryan Ellis. And then, I saw this video, and it all but sealed the deal:
(Rundblad is the player who skates the puck up the ice and picks up the secondary assist.)
Finally, a quick blurb from Director of European Scouting Goran Stubb:
"He has a very good shot. He is a right-handed shot and he is used on the power play, even in the (Elite) League despite being a young player. He is a very smart player. He could be a little more physical in his game, but that is something that he is learning."
