Pat Burns Passes Away

2

The hockey world has suffered a huge loss today, as former coach Pat Burns has lost his battle with cancer. He was only 58. I was really hoping that Burns would have made it in to the Hockey Hall of Fame before his passing, but it never came to be. I have always had a tremendous amount of respect for coach Burns, and it saddens me to see him not with us anymore. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Burns family.

Scott Arniel: Goalie Whisperer?

+

A good read from the Hockey News on how Scott Arniel got Vancouver goaltender Cory Schneider on track when both were part of the Manitoba Moose organization. I hadn't considered how Arniel might affect the ongoing development of Steve Mason, but again it seems like he might be one of the best possible guys for the job.

Falcons defeat Bridgeport 4-3

2

The Springfield Falcons put together a nice come from behind 4-3 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (NY Islanders) Tuesday night at the MassMutual Center in Springfield. It was a big night for the line of Matt Calvert, Ben Guite and Tomas Kubalik, as they accounted for all four Falcon tallies. The Falcons return to the ice Friday night at home when they take on the Hartford Wolfpack for the last time before they are rebranded as the Connecticut Whale.

Married To The Game

"Capital Style" magazine, of all places, with an interesting article on the wives of the team, including interviews with Karen Vermette, Antoinette Mongillo (nee Howson), and Marie Garon.

Unwelcome Solitude

+

An awesome piece by Tom Reed of the Dispatch this morning looking at the strain on players who have long term injuries and are unable to practice. Some great discussion with Ethan Moreau, Andrew Murray, and Mike Peca.

Joint Ticket - Bartulis / Umberger

5

The lads over at Broad Street Hockey are organizing a write in campaign for the Flyers' Oskars Bartulis - and encouraging their readers to vote for R.J. Umberger as well. The least we can do is return the favor.
