Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal breaks down why he believes Hemsky isn't fit to stick with the Oilers anymore. Matheson also gets comments from Craig Button who ponders, asking, "Would the Oilers pick up half of that to trade him, 50-50 (with another team)?" While I don't agree with the inherent conclusions (that Hemsky isn't worth having on a team), it's an interesting starting point: would you want Hemsky on the CBJ? And if not, would you want him at half price? I'd personally be pretty excited if the Jackets could pick him up in a reasonable trade.
The Jackets are letting fans vote for the 2013 MVP, and the slate of candidates is interesting. While I have to admit my heart belongs to BOB, the other candidates (Mark Letestu, Vinny Prospal, and Fedor Tyutin) all have some pretty solid credentials. As usual, the club is also offering prizes to fans who vote, and will be announcing the winner later this summer. Vote now! Vote Often!
Though a lot of Columbus fans would say that Sergei Bobrovsky is the clear Vezina winner, it's still not a done deal. The Blue Jackets own Rob Mixer put together a great case for why "Bob" is worthy, and it looks like the team is trying to get fans behind the campaign on social media to help infuence the voters before this summer's NHL awards.
Voting opens today for the NHL14 cover - and much as we love Brandon Dubinsky, can anyone argue against Sergei Bobrovsky? Vote Bob. Vote Often!
Cleland Ice Rink is a hockey rink that serves the soldiers and families at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. It was just renovated, it pays for itself with rink fees, and it hosts over 75,000 skaters a year. So of course it's being threatened with closure because of the sequestration budget cuts. Please join Defending The Blue Line and Change.org to help save the Cleland rink!
A fantastic story about a visit to the Social Suite by Puckbuddy's blogger Lyssie. Why am I fanshotting this? Because Lyssie is trans, and this was her first ever public outing as a woman. The Jackets welcomed her, gave her some of the best seats in the house, and made it an incredible and memorable experience. Huge props to Rob Mixer and the rest of the social suite team, and way to go Lyssie!
Does just what it says on the tin. Fantastic and hilarious work by a ton of Jackets fans.
This is an amazing read. Sometimes it's good to stop, step back, and remember that these guys are also human beings. I don't know when--or if--Moore might consider returning to the NHL, but if it's character this team is looking for, this man has it.
The guys over at NHL Numbers have compiled (and weighted) the draft rankings from a variety of outlets to see where the overall consensus stands for each player. As of today (3/4), Seth Jones ranks number one in most pre-draft listings and Nathan MacKinnon slots in at number two.
Jeff Angus sits down to chat with NHL trainer Ben Prentiss, there's some interesting tidbits about Cam Atkinson in there. Check it out!
