Just a reminder that the OSU Hockey Pride Night game is still scheduled for Friday, February 1st, and now includes an official partnership between OSU Men's Hockey and the You Can Play Project! Tickets can still be purchased through Gay Hockey Ohio and include a pre-game meetup and post-game skate with the team!
Hey there, Columbus. Your friendly neighborhood Wild writer here, stopping by with some news you might be interested in. I know you got some big news today already, so I'll keep this short. In addition to trying to find a positive vibe while covering the Wild, I work for an organization called Defending the Blue Line. We help make sure military kids can play hockey no matter the situation their family is in. We do this by issuing equipment, grants for association fees, or even sending the families to NHL games across the league. Why does this mater to you? As you can see from the picture above, the Ohio State Buckeyes are going to host a military appreciation event on January 21st, in which they wear some camo sweaters, and then raffle them off. Should be a pretty cool event. Not sure how many Buckeyes hockey fans there are around here, but thought I would let you know about the event. Thanks for taking the time to check it out. If you have any questions about the event or DTBL, please feel free to ask in the comments, or through Hockey Wilderness.
Reader Trevor sent this over. Sometimes, you just need a laugh, and this Movember wallpaper does the job nicely.
A really nice shot of the team's purple "Hockey Fights Cancer" warm-up jerseys from last night.
In case you missed it yesterday, ESPN had a bit of a technical issue with their captioning of Friday's game - aside from the fact that they got the score wrong, the players wrong, the numbers wrong, and what was happening on the ice wrong, it was a pretty accurate recap of what happened in that picture. *cough* Who knew Scott Howson had grabbed Peter Forsberg out of retirement? The man really is a ninja. This is probably the only time in his career that Jared Boll will get mistaken for Peter Forsberg, so I hope someone sends the picture to him so he can frame the momento! (Props to Mike Chen at From The Rink for pointing this out!)
We should have expected this. "Brass is very happy he passed me the puck tonight!" -You Know Who
From Mike Commodore's Twitter feed: "Waiting for our flight...Brass is very excited for the game against Malmo tonight!" Is it a motif? Could Dueces be expressing his inner Ansel Adams in a series of "Brass is very excited..." themed pictures? Will it be the next big photoshop meme? I'm dearly hoping for "Brass is very excited about being in space", myself. More importantly, is that Steve Mason with an iPad? And if so, does he play Angry Birds?
From Mike Commodore's Twitter feed. "Brass is very excited to be in Sweden!"
One of the best shots I've seen from today's training camp - a perfect picture of Steve Mason in goal from the "Group B" practice by Holland Photography. You can see more over at The View From 210. Image used with permission from Holland Photography
Per the Blue Jackets' twitter account, the Ice Haus is done! The main ice in Nationwide Arena goes in next week!
