With the trade deadline approaching, rumors are flying. So far, I've read rumors that the Jackets are interested in Callahan, Edler and Kesler, and that Gabby is available. But how realistic are these rumors?
Okay, Callahan is the Rangers' captain and, rumor has it, if he doesn't sign a contract extension soon, he'll be traded at the deadline rather than lose him for nothing. Supposedly, the Jackets have an interest. But I really can't see the Rangers making a trade with the Jackets when both teams are in the play-off hunt and in the same division. Maybe the Rangers trade Callahan, but I seriously doubt he's coming to C-bus.
Supposedly, Edler is being shopped and, various sources suggest, Columbus is a possible destination. But one question strikes me. With Wiz and Johnson, what do the Jackets need with another puck moving d-man? And even if Jarmo was interested in bringing in another puck-moving (or any) d-man, why trade for one when the Jackets' best depth is d-men? Seems to me that the Jackets would be more likely to promote a d-man from Springfield than trade for one.
As for Kesler and Columbus' supposed interest in him, all I have to so is, what the *@#$ do the Jackets need yet another 3rd line forward for? Ain't happening, especially for the rumored asking price of a roster player, a 1st round pick and a prospect.
As for the idea that Gabby is on the trading block..... Well, it's possible, I suppose. I mean, were I Jarmo, I would certainly listen to offers for Gabby. It would be stupid not to listen. But it would have to be a pretty good offer to make me consider trading him. As for actively shopping him....... I don't know. I suppose Jarmo could be doing that. Rumors have had him shopping Gabby nearly all season. On the other hand, Jarmo has, recently, been quoted as saying that Gabby is like a deadline trade acquisition without losing a player. Somehow, I get the feeling that Jarmo isn't shopping Gabby, but is ready to pull the trigger, if someone offers a good return.
What rumors concerning the Jackets have you heard and what do you think?
