Systems Analyst: The Blue Jackets' perfect shift

Russell LaBounty-USA TODAY Sport

Hat tip to Matt for finding this one. Over at The Score, Justin Bourne breaks down a great offensive zone shift from the Jackets that led to Ryan Johansen's goal against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Positioning is something that can easily be missed during a game, and this really illustrates the maturity of 21-year-old Johansen. That's not to mention the intelligence of Ryan Murray, making a perfect pass to set him up, instead of throwing a shot into traffic or dumping the puck back in. And of course credit to R.J. Umberger, Nick Foligno, and James Wisniewski on the great cycle and support.

I don't know about you, but it feels really good to be able to talk about the team executing to perfection on offense. These are exactly the steps we should be seeing if they are going to compete for the playoffs. If they can continue with the uptick in offense while shoring up the backend with the return of Bobrovsky in net, we could be in for a fun ride.

Head over to The Score to see the step by step break down of the play.
