Blue Jackets Sign Mark Letestu to a Two-Year Extension

USA TODAY Sports

As has been speculated, the Jackets finalized an extension for the versatile 28-year-old center.

The first trade-deadline move wasn't really a move at all: the Blue Jackets announced this morning that they have signed Mark Letestu to a two-year contract extension. Terms were not immediately available.

"Mark is a smart, versatile forward who brings consistency and a great work ethic every time he takes the ice and we are very pleased to have him remain with our hockey club," said GM Jarmo Kekäläinen.

Letestu came to the Jackets in November of 2011 from Pittsburgh for a fourth rounder, and he has outplayed that cost and then some this season. The 28-year-old has 9/11/20 this season in 34 games; all three marks are good for second on the team. But, he's done more than that this season, as he's second on the club in +/- as well with a +6 mark. He's also third on the team in face-off win percentage (for players who have taken more than 30 draws) with a 52.0% rate (179‐of‐344).

[Update] - Porty is reporting that the contract is two years, $2.5 million, and an annual cap hit of $1.25 million. This is certainly a very good deal for the Jackets.
