My thirteen year-old niece is starting to get interested in hockey and we sometimes watch games together on tv. Naturally, she asks a lot of questions and I'm trying to answer them accurately. But I've run into a problem and I hope someone can help me. I know that a shot to "the five hole" is one between the goalie's legs (Or, in these days of the butterfly goalie, between the knees.). However, she asked why it's called the five hole and I don't know. Does anybody have the answer?
