I was at the Jackets 1st game. I have been to roughly 150 home games since that 1st game with one road game in Nashville thrown in for good measure. When Rick Nash was traded for some used goalie pads and a sack of pucks I vowed never to pay for another ticket to see the CBJ play or spend a single dollar inside Nationwide arena until Scott Howson and Priest were relieved of their duties. When Bettman locked the players out and the season was put on hold I wondered if hockey was doomed to make itself irrelevant in general and non-existent in Columbus. I thought I didn’t care if the team left. I mean was it really a team? They wore the same jersey (sweater) year after year but what was I really rooting for? A logo? I do not care about a logo, I care about teams, and Columbus does not have a professional hockey team. They have a professional hockey logo, but they have not sent a professional hockey team onto the ice in years. That is why Rick left. Who can blame him? After paying $10 a ticket to sit in seats at the blue line in the lower bowl tonight I felt ripped off. If I had paid $1 a ticket to see the CBJ play and beers were $1 a piece I would have felt cheated. I love hockey and I despise what I saw take place tonight at Nationwide Arena. This team would qualify as the worst professional sports team in history if it really was a team, but it is not a team. It is a collection of professional hockey players waiting for their contracts to expire so they can leave Columbus and sign on with a professional hockey TEAM. Every man who receives a paycheck from the Columbus Blue Jackets should sit down and write a check out to each person who paid to see a professional hockey team play tonight as only one showed up and they were not wearing Jackets uniforms. There is a fine line between fan and sucker and if you call yourself a Columbus Blue Jackets Fan you are mistaken, you are just a sucker paying to watch someone collect a paycheck. Blow this team up? Seismic change? YES! Priest out. Howson out. McConnells OUT!!!
