Today in the "A": Playoff Push Continues for Falcons

The Springfield Falcons posted a huge two points in the standings on Saturday night by virtue of Mike Clemente's first pro shutout. The win enabled the Falcons to move into a virtual tie for the eighth and final playoff spot in the East. Elsewhere in the playoff battle from Saturday night in the "A":

Albany 2 at Hershey 3 SO

The goalies were the story in this one. Dany Sabourin of Hershey earned the game's #1 Star and Keith Kinkaid of Albany was #2 with a 38 save effort.

Bridgeport 3 at Portland 5
The Pirates came back with a big win after losing in Springfield on Friday night. Don't look now, but the Sound Tigers are 0-3-2 in their last five and their lead over the Falcons is only six points.

Worcester 1 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 4
After a win at home on Friday, the Sharks couldn't get it going in this game. Alexandre Picard scored goals 6, 7 and 8 for the hatty.

Adirondack 2 at Syracuse 5
The Crunch extended their winning streak to four at the expense of the Phantoms. Former Falcon Jean-Francois Jacques led Syracuse with two goals. A look ahead at Sunday's games follows the jump:

Key games on Sunday in the East:

Manchester at St. John's
The Monarchs are 4-5-1 in their last ten. They are seventh, while Syracuse and Springfield trail them by just one point.

Portland at Connecticut
After losing at home on Saturday, the Pirates are two points out of eighth. They'll need to man up today in Hartford.

Bridgeport at Worcester
The Sound Tigers may be slightly more rested coming into this game. Worcester is now on the outside looking in and really needs a win this afternoon.

Hershey at Albany
Albany has rapidly turned into the model of inconsistency in the "A". A big run in the winter put them in the thick of the playoff hunt. Now 2-5-3 in their last 10, the Devils are in a freefall.

Springfield at Providence
Paul Dainton rejoined the team yesterday. Will Coach Rob Riley go with Paully D today or stay with the hot hand of Mike Clemente? The Baby B's are 2-7-1 in their last 10 and if they get nothing today are officially on life support when it comes to playoff hopes.

Finally, not important to the playoff race, but the Norfolk Admirals are in Charlotte this afternoon to take on the Checkers. The Admirals have won 17 straight, tying the all time AHL record. A win today sets a new mark for consecutive wins.

Stay tuned to The Cannon as the Falcons continue their playoff push!
