Do you the fans like Jeff Carter as a player for the jackets?

There has been a lot of rumor about him in regards to the trade deadline. I am curious to see what you guys think of him this year as I don't really get to watch any Jackets' games. Is he just gliding around on the ice or does he always play a hard shift and puts forth as much effort as anybody on the team?

I guess the question that I would most like to pose to you guys is if you would mind seeing him go? Is he the type of player that just won't work out, or maybe he hasn't gotten enough time to prove himself with 35 games played this season. How has he faired this year at columbus?

Early on I would say he was gliding a bit. That may have to do with his ankle being hurt, or his attitude, not sure. For his game as long as you can set him up for that shot, i dont care if he is on one leg.
However, since coming back from injury, he has looked very good. Hes skating hard and is engaged in every play.
My take on Carter is this:
If he is willing to stay and play his hardest, we better be keeping him. Even if he is willing to stay until the end of next year and play hard, that would help his trade value a whole lot. He has a wicked shot, and is dangerous on every rush. So I would personally love to keep him around IF he is willing to stay and give it his all.
If not, i would be willing to trade him for the right price. I know we wont get him with the market right now, but I would like a young goalie, a solid top 3 defensemen, and a pick. LIke i said, that return is highly unlikely, but maybe a team will get desperate right at the deadline since the pickings are so slim this year. Or if he stays and plays hard until at least next year, we may be able to get that return out of him.

just want to get a take from a CBJ fan

To feel comfortable letting him go, what would you like in return, what does CBJ most need player wise at the moment?

-Two Way Forwards
-Sniping
-Defenseman with a big shot
-Solid shutdown defenseman

A return for either Carter or Nash should feature at least number 1 goalie and a top 4 defenseman, and should probably have more involved.

not many goalie prospects out there guys haha

You can always use your picks to get that goalie, i hear that subban guy (PK’s younger brother) is pretty good.

If you are talking about roster players tho, that price is a bit steep. keep in mind I am just asking what you need not what you want for Carter hahah.

but i see the trend, mason not doing it for you?

Mason not doing it is the understatement of the year. Mason has been terrible.

I mean the goalie is the absolute need. No deal for Nash or Carter will happen without a real number 1 starting goalie coming back. That is by far the weakest position in Columbus. And not a prospect goalie – somebody who is (or could be) the number 1 goalie. Rask, Schneider, Holtby, or somebody similar would be nice.

a starting goalie is difficult to come by, that is by far the most sought out position in the NHL. Carter’s trade value has severely decreased since coming to Columbus and he is also injury prone with his shoulder.

The teams that need goalies the most are us, NJD, and TBL. Calgary is getting to that point since Kipper is getting old. Pretty much everyone else has a goalie that can do the job.
I see goalies that these teams would target as Schneider, Rask, Bishop, Holtby, and Bernier. Out of those, I see Bernier, Bishop, and Schneider being the ones most likely to be moved. And who knows, Thomas may be moved in offseason also with his latest political debacle.

I think Carter could fetch a good young goalie. We sent a top 10 pick, good young prospect in Voracek, and a pick for him. His trade value has fallen, but no way it has fallen further than a goalie.

Maybe we can do a three way trade for Schneider.

Holtby had a terrible outing against the Sharks yesterday lol, and Rask is definitely not going anywhere with how old Tim Thomas is. He is their starter basically although it kinda flops between the two of them the last year.

You should also add Ottawa, Philly, and Chicago to that list.

Honestly your best bet would probably be to draft the top prospected goalie, Schneider is probably the one i would go for in that list although with how inconsistent Luongo is at times I don’t know how thrilled Vancouver would be.

Luongo, despite the perception, has been and continues to be an elite goalie. The long term deal isn’t so great, but he’s fantastic right now.

Philly has Bob and Bryz, I dont think they will add another young goalie. Maybe a proven one that can share a load, but Bob is still a great young goalie and Bryz has skill.
Ottawa can be added, but Anderson is playing very well for them. Chicago may shop for a goalie, but I dont think they have given up on Crawford.
No, Rask isnt going anywhere, which is why I said Thomas might.

To be completely honest about your initial question, I don’t particularly want either Nash or Carter to go. If the return would net a true goalie and some strong defensemen, then I would be less troubled.

However, two of the top 10 goal scorers over the past 5 years are currently on the same team in Columbus. It’s hard to replace that kind of talent, so if they leave, it had better be for an insane return.

This is exactly my position.

You guys are nuts. Carter’s been terrible this year; lazy play, crappy attitude. He floats around to the open areas of the ice waiting for someone to do the hard work and get him the puck so he can fire it off the glass or into the goalie’s sweater. he doesn’t play D, he doesn’t fight for the puck on the boards, he doesn’t hit anyone. No way we get any decent return for him, his trade value is WAY down.
