Shrapnel - 2/10/12
The news went from bad to worse last night after the loss to the Stars: Both Marc Methot and Jared Boll are likely done for the season with their injuries, and Methot mentioned this morning on twitter that he'll be having surgery this afternoon.
There is some good news - based on reports from the club we expect that James Wisniewski, Nikita Nikitin, and Mark Letestu are nearly ready to rejoin the lineup, but expect a few patchwork callups to help get the team through the weekend.
If you didn't hear, the Commish was in town - check out the Dispatch getting to him about the clock issue, while Steph Greegor returns to the CBJ saddle with a look at Bettman (and the NHL) reaffirming their commitment to Columbus.
Around the NHL, last night saw Chris Phillips score twice in his 1000th game, Scott Hartnell put on an impressive Gordie Howe Hat Trick, and Scott Gomez finally broke through...perhaps due to some divine intervention?
Vinny Prospal's extension was a subject of some debate, with Carry The Flag sharing their thoughts, Greg looking at placing faith in Vinny, and DBJ considering what it means for the future.
Another "worst kept secret" is now official - the 2013 Winter Classic will be held at The Big House in Ann Arbor between the Maple Leafs and Red Wings. Interestingly, Comerica park will also be used to host College Hockey and the alumni events, all tied under the Winter Classic banner. Should be a lot of fun. Apparently Brian Burke thinks we'll see a lot of blue and white in the stands, Bourne is excited about the next edition of 24/7, and of course there will be unique jerseys.
At the Dispatch, they look at another scratch for Ryan Johansen, while Jeff puts serious thought into Rebuilding The Jackets at TMM.
That's it for today - have fun out there!

As was reported by the Dispatch about an hour ago, Curtis Sanford joins the ranks of the injured Jackets. His back problems flared up toward the end of the game yesterday and he is not making the trip to Minnesota. So Steve Mason will start and Allen York will be backup.
Oh boy.
CCT, CBJ, SU, NYM, Bills Fan. It can be depressing.
Sometimes I tweet things
Mason is also switching to bigger pads, which is interesting. Im curious as to what he used his rookie year.
Last week actually, I decided to watch some highlights of Mason rookie year just to see what could have been, and i actually noticed that it seemed like his pads were bigger. The only reason I noticed the pads in the videos was because watching him this year his pads always seemed really small compared to other goalies. Now I dont know exactly what kind of “bigger” he is changing too, but im interested to see how he plays.
With that said, i dont think there is anyway that he actually switched the size of his pads after his rookie year, but I still find it weird that he chooses to wear smaller pads than whats allowed
