It's been a big week at home for the Blue Jackets, but the boys abroad had some rough goings in their KHL schedule over the past seven days. Welcome to another Tsar Report!
When last we looked in on our boys in the K, Avangard, Lokomotiv, and SKA were all rolling. We knew that would change for at least one of the three, since Lokomotiv and SKA were facing each other this week, but things were pretty rocky for all three clubs in the latest stretch of games.
Avangard Omsk won 3-2 in the shootout against Severstal, but fell in OT against Dinamo Minsk before rebounding in a 3-1 win over Vityaz.
Lokomotiv was shut out, 3-0, against Dynamo Moscow, while SKA beat Atlant 3-2 heading into their head to head battle, which would end in a 2-1 win for Lokomotiv thanks to a pair of special teams goals (1 SHG, 1 PPG) by Alexander Guskov.
Now, to the individuals...
Not surprisingly, when you get shut out in one game and don't score in the other, it wasn't a great week for AA, though he did go 21 for 37 in the faceoff circle.
On the other hand, Niki6 had himself a fine week, picking up an assist on the tying goal against Severstal and scoring the GWG against Vityaz.
Bob did not play in the win against Atlant Correction, I cannot read a KHL scoresheet. Bob DID bring it for the win, stopping 17 of 19, but didn't have as much luck in the loss against Lokomotiv, stopping 24 of 26 shots. His opponent? Former Jacket Curtis Sanford, who stopped 21 of 22. Sounds like Bob didn't exactly get a flood of offensive support, but he put in a good effort to keep SKA in the fight.
SKA will be back in action tomorrow, the 26th, against Torpedo, but Lokomotiv is off until Saturday when they face Severstal, and Avangard won't hit the ice until the 28th against Yugra.
On Monday, the 29th, Lokomotiv will face Neftekehimik, and SKA will face Spartak Moscow, then all three teams will be in action on Halloween night. Avangard will be squaring off with Barys, Lokomotiv will host AK Bars, and SKA will visit Dinamo Riga to wrap up the first month of the KHL season.
