So, Antoine Vermette, You Want to be a Blue Jacket?

Welcome to another installment of "So, You Want to be a Blue Jacket?

This series is presented in the form of a mock job interview. The operative word here is mock. We're presenting these from the perspective of the player, as if they were applying for a job with the Jackets. The players themselves aren't involved, so don't contact the team if you disagree with one of their answers! No player will avoid the interview process, not even Rick Nash.

Q) Hi Antoine, tell us a little about yourself.

A) I was born in St-Agapit, Quebec, Canada on July 20, 1982. I was drafted 55th overall by the Ottawa Senators in 2000 and played there until I was traded to Columbus during the 2008-09 season.

Q) Tell us about some intangibles you could bring to the Blue Jackets.

A) I’ve rarely missed a game in my career. I’m a natural center and one of the top face-off men in the league, although I’m comfortable playing the wing as well if it best serves my team. I do my best to contribute in all areas on and off the ice and work hard to be seen as a good leader by example.

Q) What areas of your game do you think you can improve on?

A) I have talent with the puck, but it wasn’t until two seasons ago that I finally scored over 60 points in a season. Last year was a down year, but I believe I’m hitting my prime and really hope to improve on my goal-scoring.

Q) Can you give us some examples of your hockey accomplishments?

  1. A) I was awarded the Mike Bossy Trophy in 2000 as the top QMJHL Draft prospect and named to the AHL All-Rookie Team in 2003. In my last year of junior hockey, I scored 26 points in 22 playoff games, leading the Victoriaville Tigres to win the President's Cup as QMJHL champions and playing in the 2002 Memorial Cup, finishing with a silver medal.
